Sangean DT-200X FM-Stereo AM/FM Digital Tuning Personal Receiver

Filed under: Sangean — rockpolaris @ 4:34 pm

It’s an idiosyncrasy; I can’t fall asleep unless I’ve got some radio earphones hooked up to my ear. For whatever reason FM reception on the Sony Walkman deteriorated badly, so I began looking for a replacement. I settled on this Sangean after reading the reviews and noticing a great warehouse price on Amazon. The only difference between this radio and a brand new one is that there were a few pieces of tape on the packaging. The radio itself, the earphones, and the documentation were pristine.

It was easy to set up and program my favorite stations.

Sound quality and reception are both good and better than on the replaced Sony.

The radio itself is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. I like that it gives the user the option of listening with or without earphones.

Though it’s capable of holding many more stations, I only programmed six into “my favorites.” There are no separate buttons for the individual stations. One presses an up or down button to scan the favorites, so I wanted to keep the number small.

Since I listen to this while falling asleep, I wanted something with few buttons. The controls on this radio are well designed though I wish the up/down scrolling buttons were easier to distinguish by touch.

I like that the AM/FM favorites are all accessed with the same controls and can be intermingled when programming. Some listeners may prefer separate access for AM and FM stations. This is possible when not using the “favorites” option.

The earphones work well with decent sound and reception, although the earpieces are a little larger than I like.

Probably my favorite feature is the automatic off function. The radio turns itself off after ninety minutes. Since I almost always fall asleep with the radio on, this handy feature will certainly help me cut down on battery replacement.

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and have no regrets.

Sangean DT-200VX FM-Stereo/AM Audio Digital Tuning Personal Receiver

I currently own the Sony SRF-T615 which, in my opinion,is superior mostly due to it’s size. However, I purchased the Sangean because of many good reviews and I’m not disappointed. The Sony T615 can only be purchased in Japan or via websites that sell Japanese mainland products. It’s about as portable as a credit card and co$tly!!!

I’ve read a number of reviews and I’d like to dispel a few comments.

Some folks have claimed that you can only go through the presets unidirectional. That’s not true. There are up and down arrows on the front of this unit. To me, having presets is huge as I prefer to surf my favorite radio stations when commercials are run. You may think that the lack of preset buttons is inconvenient, however, I have radio controls on the steering wheel of my car and I can surf up or down. I never found this annoying. Perhaps if you actually used 19 presets then it could become painful.

Another person complained that it was difficult, at first, to program presets. If you try to deduce how to program this from trial and error he’s probably correct. However, the directions are clear and if followed become intuitive. You won’t have to refer back to the manual again once you learn it.

Someone else complained that the speaker was tinny. Hey, it’s a pocket radio! I think the sound is decent for its size. You can easily listen to radio via the speaker. The Sony SRF-T615 has a speaker and in comparison it sounds like tin foil crinkling. The

The sound quality, the reception, the cost, the back-lighting are the best. Having owned the Sony for 3 years I’m kinda curious why Sangean can’t make a smaller, thinner unit with the same great reception and sound. It takes AA batteries so that can account for it’s depth. Having owned the Sony I can’t really consider this a “pocket” radio. The DT-200X is over an inch thick.

Here’s a website you can visit to see the Sony to which I’m comparing: audcubes2 dot com. Yes, the Sony is friggin’ expensive.

This Sangean radio has made me a big fan of the company. If I were to purchase a radio in the future I’d probably buy a Sangean.

Sangean DT-200X FM-Stereo/AM Audio Digital Tuning Personal Receiver

Filed under: Sangean — rockpolaris @ 8:04 am

I recently purchased this radio as a gift for myself.I am mostly happy with it.It is quite small, about the same size as a pack of cigarettes. It takes two AA batteries so it does have some weight to it.It slips easily into a front or back pocket of your jeans/pants.A small removable rigid belt clip was included but I found it useless as it did not swivel.Overall build quality is nice, does not look or feel cheap.
I have found reception pretty good.I will try to explain.I had a Sony SRF-M37W Walkman before this radio. The Sony worked OK , I could never get ANY AM stations , just got static. It could get a few FM ( My fav NPR came in so I was happy) I recently changed work locations and the Sony could not get ANY stations in at my new location (10 miles west of previous location) With my new Sangean I can get numerous AM stations in very clear (more than my car radio parked outside)FM is also coming in very clear (just not the one I was really seeking) I walk all around a large building as I use this radio and it holds the station well.

The included earbuds wire functions as the antenna for the radio. They also include a separate antenna wire that goes in the headphone jack when you want to use the external speaker…Though I just keep the earbuds plugged in and use those as the antenna when I want to listen to the external speaker. It’s very easy to switch between speaker and headphones. The included earbuds are acceptable in quality. As other reviews have noted the bud portion is quite large so they are not the most comfortable. My advice wait till you try them for yourself to see if you need to replace them. The external speaker is a nice feature but sound is not the best. It’s not very loud and has a fuzzy sound to it…Again very acceptable and a nice feature to have but it’s not going to WOW you with it’s sound quality.

Battery life is good but if you plan on being a heavy user rechargeable batteries might be helpful. It does shut off after 90 minutes to save battery life. There is way to override that feature explained in the owners manual. It also has a button lock to keep you from accidentally changing stations.

My only real quibble is that the radio has a rounded bottom so setting it down to stand on its own is impossible!

Overall I am quite happy with my purchase.

Note regarding my reception area: I use this product in the Western Suffolk County /South Shore area of Long Island about 45 miles East of NYC.
